Advancements in dental technology continue to be made and perhaps the most impactful development in recent years is that of Chairside Economic Resorative Esthetic Ceramic, or CEREC.  Applicable to a wide range of dental repair procedures such as crowns, the replacement of defective fillings or even the application of veneers, CEREC uses a suite of technologically advanced tools to evaluate, diagnose and treat your condition in one visit.  At Zonies-Holdgado Dental Associates, we have extensive experience in the use of the CEREC technology and you’ll appreciate the convenience it provides.

What is CEREC?

The CEREC SystemCEREC  is a dental restoration process that uses sophisticated technology to deliver treatment that’s much faster and accurate than what was possible only several years ago.  The process also uses advanced equipment known as the CEREC machine.  Using 3D digital photography, computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM), the CEREC process takes an image of your damaged tooth and manufactures a custom repair while you wait.  Dental restoration and reconstruction using CEREC is among the most advanced procedures currently used in cosmetic dentistry and many general dentists don’t have the equipment or expertise to offer this procedure.  As a result, we’re proud to be among the few CEREC dentists in Cherry, Hill, NJ.

CEREC Dental Procedures

CEREC can be used for a number of procedures including crowns, inlays and many others, but the procedure is generally similar in each.  During the first step of a tooth repair, the damage teeth are prepared and then sprayed with a thin layer of blue reflective contrast medium.  This enables the CEREC machine to carefully record the many small details of the tooth.  Afterward, the damaged area is imaged by a 3D camera and uploaded to the CEREC computer.  Using a highly detailed computer model, a design is created to restore the tooth and then transferred to the CEREC milling machine.  Without the delay of sending anything out to a lab, the ceramic crown or other piece is then milled on-site in our offices in twenty minutes or less.
